Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescoping booms lifts are designed to mount a work bucket on an extendable, straight arm which is located on a rotating turntable. Usually, telescoping boom lifts are utilized for tasks which need reaching at maximum height, exceeding other kinds of lifts. For example, employees are able to perform exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts rather than having the additional work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift is only designed to hold a single person. These buckets are more suited to specific tasks like electrical repair, rather than window washing or general maintenance. These lifts come in gas or electric configurations and are offered with both indoor and outdoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Underneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the machinery gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. Because these equipment should be positioned directly beneath the work location, compared to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, on the other hand, offer larger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a concern with these models, because they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being used for cladding or window installation, as they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great option for window cleaning applications or exterior repairs.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle normally used to lift workers for different tasks performed at heights. Typically, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the operator sits and operates the machinery. There is a bucket for where the worker can stand as well as a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for raising the boom.
Cherry pickers can lift personnel up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to raise both heavy materials and equipment for one location to another. There are various types of cranes that can perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of equipment excel at different tasks and are great for particular applications and completing particular jobs.
