There are two basic kinds of lift trucks, units which run on gas and those that run on electricity:

Internal Combustion Forklifts: The IC Lift Trucks run on gas, liquid propane, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered units are made to be used outside because they release gases and pollutants which can be harmful if inhaled. Gas units are also suitable to be utilized in the rain and in bad climate. These models could carry weights about 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel costs and maintenance, the gas powered units are a lot more costly to use than the electric models, however, they cost less up front than electric powered models. Models that run on liquid propane are the best option for safe use indoors.

Electric Lift Trucks: Electric forklifts take batteries which require regular charging. Since these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machinery. They are the best option for indoor applications and warehouses. Furthermore, electric lift trucks do not require any fuel storage units and they are a lot quieter to run compared to other units. Among the downsides of electric powered models is that they are unable to lift loads over 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration than the units which use gasoline.

The forklift is particularly designed to transport things and supplies easily and quickly. Mishaps do happen on a regular basis like is the case with most kinds of machinery. There are specific safety regulations which should be followed so as to keep everybody safe. The most essential issue is recruiting a trained operator, who could show you a valid forklift license.

On the market today, there are numerous different styles of lift trucks available. Deciding which one is best for your particular needs will be based on the type of environment your equipment will have to operate in, for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what types of loads that you have to transport. Once you understand your particular requirements, it will be easy to match up to the right type of lift truck. When you understand all your needs exactly you will be able to make the best choice.

Another great way to get first hand experience on the different lift truck models is the try leasing your forklift. This will also enable you to see all the possible choices available to you. This is a cheaper way to know if the machinery you have in mind could keep up with you on the job site.
